History
Patti Page was the stage name of Clara Ann Fowler (November 8, 1927 - January 1, 2013), born in Claremore, Oklahoma. She started singing on a Tulsa radio show sponsored by the Page Milk Company, which gave her the stage name, and signed with Mercury Records in 1947. Working mostly in pop with a strong country crossover streak, she became the top-charting female vocalist and best-selling female artist of the 1950s, selling over 100 million records. Her signature hit, 1950's "Tennessee Waltz", spent 13 weeks at number one and is now an official song of the state of Tennessee. Other major hits include "All My Love (Bolero)", "I Went to Your Wedding", and "(How Much Is) That Doggie in the Window?". One notable piece of trivia: on her 1948 single "Confess", she became one of the first pop artists to harmonize with overdubbed copies of her own voice, a studio trick achieved by syncing master discs before tape recording was standard. She was inducted into the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame in 1997 and received a posthumous Lifetime Achievement Grammy in 2013.
