Style recipe for Suno v5
Salsa Romantica
Romantic salsa from the 1980s: montuno piano, soft brass, conga drums, seductive and warm in feel. A name-free Suno recipe that reproduces the signature sound without tripping the artist-name filter.
History
Salsa romántica is salsa with the edges sanded off: melodic love songs set over a slowed, smooth salsa rhythm, with softer and quieter orchestration. It emerged between the mid-1980s and early 1990s in New York, Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic, just as Fania-style classic salsa was sharing the Latin charts with rising Latin pop. The Cuban musician La Palabra is credited with introducing it, and the style is traced to a single album, Noches Calientes, made in 1984 by Fania producer Luis Ramírez. Young salseros such as Lalo Rodríguez and Eddie Santiago followed with frothy songs and suggestive lyrics. Critics were not kind. They called it limp salsa, a commercialised, watered-down Latin pop that set formulaic ballads to an Afro-Cuban beat; in Cuba some dubbed it the white style to separate it from traditional salsa, and defenders of salsa dura saw a pale imitation. Buyers disagreed. Jerry Rivera became the first salsero to go triple platinum, with Cuenta Conmigo, an album of pure salsa romántica, La India, Luis Enrique and Víctor Manuelle built careers on the style, and Marc Anthony became the best-selling salsa artist of the past two decades.
