Style recipe for Suno v5
Neofolk
Neofolk from the 1990s: acoustic guitar, twelve string guitar, hurdy gurdy, theatrical and menacing in feel. A name-free Suno recipe that reproduces the signature sound without tripping the artist-name filter.
History
Neofolk came out of the British post-punk and industrial underground of the 1980s, when Death In June, Current 93 and Sol Invictus set acoustic instruments against the gloom of dark wave and dark ambient. Its forerunners were 1960s acts who had turned to old folk song, among them Leonard Cohen and Comus, plus Nico's later solo work. Atmosphere beats verse and chorus, vocals slide between singing and spoken word, and lyrics dig into paganism, nature, runes and European myth and history. The first name was apocalyptic folk, and it was never meant as a genre tag: David Tibet of Current 93 used it to say his band was made by apocalyptic people. Tibet calls himself a Christian, yet during a stretch of heavy amphetamine and LSD use in the 1980s he revered the children's character Noddy as a Gnostic deity. Swans took the sound into early 1990s albums such as Love of Life (1992), and by the late 1990s former black metal bands Empyrium and Haggard had followed. Borrowed fascist imagery has tied the scene to the far right, which fans contest. In Russia, Moscow's Neutral and Kaliningrad's Romowe Rikoito laid down the genre's canon in the mid-1990s.
