History
Italian hardcore was the country's hardcore punk scene of the 1980s, and its influence on hardcore bands around the world has outlasted that decade. What set it apart from the American and British scenes was its backdrop. Italian punks grew up in a hard social and political climate: the era of left- and right-wing political terrorism was ending, and the moment was ripe for mass layoffs in the factories. Many of them came straight from the working class and the underclass, so the songs dealt with the social situation and with the distance between the punk movement and the yuppie philosophy then spreading through Italy. Bands took their cue from Crass and Discharge, and many lyrics were aimed against war and against NATO. Bands of the scene include Raw Power, Negazione, Wretched, Cripple Bastards, Skruigners and CCCP Fedeli alla Linea.
