How to make sleep and meditation music that actually works

This is the only genre where being forgettable is the specification. The four properties that help someone fall asleep, a brief built mostly from exclusions, and how to reach eight hours from a four-minute bed.


Sleep music has one job: to be ignored. Every choice that makes a track interesting, a melody you follow, a change you notice, a moment that resolves, works directly against the purpose. This is the only genre where being forgettable is the specification rather than the failure.

Ask for a loop explicitly. No cold open, no ending, no build. A track that resolves cannot loop without a seam. Structure is controlled by section tags rather than hope, and that is a separate lever from the style prompt.

Crossfade rather than butt-join. Even a good loop point benefits from a few seconds of overlap. In sustained ambient material a crossfade is inaudible.

Two things to get right:
