History
Passion Pit is an American indie pop and electropop band that formed in 2007 in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Frontman Michael Angelakos started the project at Emerson College, writing the songs that became the Chunk of Change EP as a belated Valentine's Day gift for his girlfriend; he originally performed everything alone with a laptop. The song "Sleepyhead" spread through MySpace, racking up more than a million plays and leading to a full band and a record deal. Passion Pit's debut album, Manners (2009), built a sound of chiming synthesizers and Angelakos's soaring falsetto, while "Little Secrets" later became a fan favorite inside the video game LittleBigPlanet. Their second album, Gossamer (2012), driven by the single "Take a Walk," debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard 200, the band's first top-10 album, and touched on Angelakos's struggle with bipolar disorder. The band went on to release Kindred (2015) and Tremendous Sea of Love, and performed on Saturday Night Live and at Glastonbury.
