Style recipe for Suno v5
Mumble Rap
Mumble rap from the 2010s: rolling trap hats, sliding sub bass, bell melody loop, hypnotic and swaggering in feel. A name-free Suno recipe that reproduces the signature sound without tripping the artist-name filter.
History
Mumble rap is a loose label for a style and an era of hip-hop that spread through SoundCloud in the mid-to-late 2010s. It began as an insult for slurred, hard-to-follow delivery, and it marked a turn away from dense lyricism toward melody, mood and tone: Auto-Tune, ad-libs, pop melodies and heavily distorted, deliberately unpolished bass. Future's 2011 single Tony Montana is often cited as the first mumble rap song, and Young Thug, Chief Keef, Gucci Mane, Migos and Playboi Carti are among those credited with shaping it. Desiigner's Panda was so hard to make out that he posted a transcription of the lyrics, and the single still reached number one on the Billboard chart. The style split rap along generational lines: Eminem, J. Cole and Pete Rock attacked it, while George Clinton said he listened to it and The Guardian compared it to the first wave of punk. The SoundCloud wave lost momentum after the deaths of Lil Peep in 2017 and XXXTentacion in 2018. In Russia and Ukraine the late 2010s produced an offshoot called mumble rock, mixing pop-punk and hip-hop, with Poshlaya Molly and Frendzona among its first names.
