Style recipe for Suno v5
Jazz Funk
Jazz funk from the 1970s: clavinet, slap bass, funk drums, swaggering and euphoric in feel. A name-free Suno recipe that reproduces the signature sound without tripping the artist-name filter.
History
Jazz-funk came from jazz musicians taking in funk, soul and R&B: a strong backbeat, electric instruments and, often, analog synthesizers. A tune usually rests on one or two riffs with room left for improvisation, and the sound runs on Rhodes piano, electric guitar, bass guitar and organ. Miles Davis's On the Corner and Jimmy Smith's Root Down, both from 1972, are counted among the early records, and Herbie Hancock left a strong mark on the style, playing ARP Odyssey synthesizer and clavinet on Head Hunters (1973). Commercial success often came through producers Larry and Fonce Mizell, who worked with Donald Byrd and the Blackbyrds. Pop audiences tended to find the music too jazzy, but Britain took to it in the clubs. From the mid-1970s DJs in Manchester, Birmingham, Leeds and the South built a following, pirate stations played it, and Light of the World became the first British band to give it a local identity. Roy Ayers and Level 42 are listed among its names. Acid jazz, a related style, leaned harder on the groove: Jamiroquai and The Brand New Heavies made it popular, and US3 covered Hancock's "Cantaloupe Island".
