Style recipe for Suno v5
Cool Jazz
Cool jazz from the 1950s: muted trumpet, alto saxophone, tenor saxophone, intimate and warm in feel. A name-free Suno recipe that reproduces the signature sound without tripping the artist-name filter.
History
Cool jazz took the speed and heat out of bebop after World War II and put relaxed tempos, a lighter tone and classically minded arrangements in their place. Its sound has been compared to pastels next to the fiery red of Dizzy Gillespie's solos. The roots go back to Lester Young, whose light saxophone sat behind the beat instead of driving it, and to Claude Thornhill's big band with its French horn and tuba. In 1948 Miles Davis built a nonet around Thornhill alumni Gerry Mulligan, Lee Konitz and arranger Gil Evans. The band lasted one two-week engagement at the Royal Roost in Manhattan plus three recording dates for Capitol, later collected as Birth of the Cool. Mulligan then formed a pianoless quartet with Chet Baker, John Lewis co-founded the Modern Jazz Quartet and played fugues with improvised expositions, and Stan Getz launched his career with "Early Autumn" in Woody Herman's band. In California the style turned into West Coast jazz around the Lighthouse Café in Hermosa Beach. In 1959 the Dave Brubeck Quartet took Time Out to No. 2 on the Billboard pop albums chart, and the cool approach carried on into bossa nova and the modal jazz of Kind of Blue.
