History

Within Destruction are a Slovenian band that began in brutal, slam-heavy deathcore and then reshaped their sound around Japanese imagery, nu metal and electronic production. They formed in 2010 in Jesenice, with vocalist Rok Rupnik and drummer Luka Vezzosi as the long-standing core. Early records such as From the Depths and Void were built on slam death metal grooves, guttural vocals and crushing breakdowns, and Deathwish in 2018 carried that into a sharper deathcore frame. Yōkai in 2020 was the turning point: songs drew on Japanese folklore and anime aesthetics, and hip-hop cadences, trap-style beats and electronic textures appeared alongside the breakdowns. Lotus in 2022 went further in that direction, with guitarist Howard Fang adding clean vocals and a stronger nu metal and metalcore influence. The 2023 EP Rebirth returned to straight deathcore, before Animetal in 2025 mixed the styles again. Within Destruction are recognised by the collision of slam-level heaviness with Japanese melodic motifs, electronic drops and bouncing, nu metal rhythms.
