History

Will Sparks is a Melbourne producer and DJ who became one of the faces of Melbourne bounce, the local house style that broke out of the city's clubs in the early 2010s. His track Ah Yeah!, released in 2012, was one of the records that carried the sound beyond Melbourne: a hopping, offbeat bassline, sharp synth stabs, a short vocal shout and a drop built entirely on bounce. He started young and moved quickly from local clubs to national festival stages as the style grew. Work with Joel Fletcher placed him at the centre of the new generation of Melbourne producers, and Ah Yeah So What! in 2014 revisited his signature hit with a fresh arrangement. His later work stayed close to the energetic, festival-oriented side of electronic dance music. The appeal of his productions lies in their directness: little introduction, a steady four-to-the-floor kick, and a bassline designed to make a room jump. Listeners recognise a Will Sparks track by that springy bass, the tight percussive synths, and short vocal samples used as hooks.
