History
White Ring brought a harder, more abrasive edge to early witch house: distorted drum machines, grinding low end and a female voice that floated above the noise like a warning. The group formed in New York City in 2009 around Bryan Kurkimilis and Kendra Malia, who had met online a few years earlier. Their split seven-inch with oOoOO in 2010 and the tracks that circulated around it placed them in the first wave of the scene next to Salem, and the 2011 EP Black Earth That Made Me, with its slow, heavy pulse and industrial texture, became their calling card. Then the project went silent for seven years. The debut album Gate of Grief finally appeared in 2018 and opened a trilogy the band describes as dealing with trauma, loss and acceptance, continued by Show Me Heaven in 2021. Malia died in 2019, and Adina Viarengo, who joined in 2016, carried the vocals forward with Kurkimilis. Angel 13 Volume 1 in 2024 began a new cycle. Across all of it the signature holds: pop-shaped songs pushed through grime, darkness and grief.
