History

Voices From The Lake is the duo of Italian producers Donato Dozzy and Neel, and their music sits between ambient and techno: slow, dubby pulses, layered textures that drift like water, and a sense of space in which the beat is felt more than heard. The project grew out of material the pair prepared for a live performance at The Labyrinth, the Japanese outdoor festival known for its devotion to hypnotic techno and careful sound. Their self-titled album, released by Prologue in 2012, was conceived as one continuous piece split into chapters, each meant to evoke part of the festival. It was widely praised and is often cited as a record that reshaped ambient techno, encouraging producers to favour atmosphere and immersion over club impact. The "Velo di Maya" EP followed in 2014. After a long gap came "II", released in 2025 on their own Spazio Disponibile label, its soft synth layers and half-formed pulses keeping the same restraint. Listeners recognise the project by its watery textures, long gradual transitions and a calm, submerged mood.
