History
Vitalic is the stage name of French electronic music producer Pascal Arbez-Nicolas, born 18 May 1976. He emerged from the Parisian underground techno scene in the late 1990s, releasing early singles in 1996-97 before befriending producer The Hacker, who connected him with DJ Hell's Munich label International DeeJay Gigolo Records. The 2001 Poney EP, and its track "La Rock 01," became a surprise club anthem that crossed into rock compilations, propelling Vitalic out of the underground. His 2005 debut album, OK Cowboy, built entirely from synthesized instruments, cemented a raw, distorted take on electro. He followed with Flashmob (2009), whose disco-tinged single "Poison Lips" later soundtracked the 2012 film Dredd and a 2016 Amazon ad, then Rave Age (2012), Voyager (2017), and the Dissidaence series (2021-22). In 2024 he won the Lumiere Award for Best Music for his score to the film Disco Boy (2023). He also records as DIMA and has collaborated with artists including Rebeka Warrior (as KOMPROMAT) and Emel Mathlouthi.
