History
Victoria Monét is an American R&B singer, songwriter, and producer from Sacramento, California, who emerged in the 2020s as a solo artist after nearly a decade writing hits for others. Before her own breakthrough she co-wrote songs for Ariana Grande (including "Thank U, Next"), Chloe x Halle, Fifth Harmony, Brandy, and Nas. She released a string of independent EPs under the "Jaguar" and "Life After Love" titles before her debut studio album, Jaguar II, arrived in August 2023. Its single "On My Mama" became a viral TikTok dance hit, sampling Poison Clan's 1990s bass classic "Shake Whatcha Mama Gave Ya." At the 2024 Grammy Awards, Monét led the R&B field with seven nominations and won Best New Artist, Best R&B Album, and Best R&B Song, a rare sweep for a songwriter turning solo star after so many years working behind the scenes for other performers.
