History

Vicente Amigo is a flamenco guitarist and composer known for a lyrical, highly melodic style: clean, singing lines, refined harmony and a lighter touch than the percussive attack of many of his peers, all without leaving the rhythmic ground of flamenco. He was born in Guadalcanal, near Seville, and grew up in Córdoba, where he took guitar lessons and later refined his playing with Manolo Sanlúcar, working alongside him for about ten years. He first made his name as an accompanist for singers, starting with El Pele and later playing on recordings by Camarón de la Isla and Luis de Córdoba. From 1988 he turned mainly to concert work, and his first solo album, De mi corazón al aire, came out in 1991. Vivencias imaginadas followed in 1995, and Ciudad de las ideas won the Latin Grammy for Best Flamenco Album in 2001. An admirer of Paco de Lucía since childhood, he shared the stage with him in the show Leyendas de la guitarra in Seville. His collaborations reach well beyond flamenco, including Sting, John McLaughlin, Al Di Meola, Milton Nascimento and Alejandro Sanz.
