History
Uffie is the stage name of Anna-Catherine Hartley, born December 9, 1987 in Miami, Florida, and raised partly in Hong Kong before moving to Paris as a teenager. There she fell in with the city's electro scene through her then-boyfriend Feadz, and in late 2005 wrote "Pop the Glock" as a Myspace demo; its 2006 release got her signed to Ed Banger Records by label boss Busy P. Her sound mixes synth-pop, electroclash, alternative dance and a flat, deadpan rap delivery, making her one of the defining voices of Paris's mid-2000s electro-house wave alongside labelmates like Justice and SebastiAn. She sang on Justice's Grammy-nominated album Cross and worked with Mr. Oizo and Pharrell Williams before releasing her debut album, Sex Dreams and Denim Jeans (2010), which earned a Victoires de la Musique nomination. After a mid-2010s hiatus she returned with the EP Tokyo Love Hotel (2019) and a feature on Charli XCX's mixtape Number 1 Angel. One trivia note: her name comes from the French word "oeuf" (egg), a childhood nickname from her father.
