History
Tyrone Griffin Jr. grew up in Los Angeles, plays bass, guitar and keys, and builds his records around banks of backing vocals he sings himself, a signature that identifies a track in seconds and resists clean imitation. He worked as a writer and producer first; 'Paranoid' (2014) and 'Or Nah' put his own name in front. Free TC (2015) takes its title from his brother, who is serving a life sentence, and runs West Coast funk, gospel keys and a long guest list across one tracklist. Beach House 3 arrived in 2017. Most of his working life, though, happens inside other people's songs: he has sung hooks on several hundred features across rap and pop, including 'Psycho' with Post Malone. The method stays the same everywhere. A lead line gets doubled, then stacked in thirds and fifths, until the hook sounds like a small choir made of one person.
