History
Tsjuder describe their music as uncompromising, speed-addicted black metal, and that is an accurate summary. The band formed in Oslo in 1993 and settled into a lean core of Nag on vocals and bass and Draugluin on guitar and vocals, with drummers coming and going around them. The name comes from the 1987 Norwegian film Pathfinder, where the Tsjuder are a menacing tribe from the north. Their roots are plain to hear: Bathory, early Darkthrone and Mayhem, with a strong dose of classic thrash and death metal riffing. Kill for Satan in 2000 and Demonic Possession in 2002 built their name, and Desert Northern Hell in 2004 is usually treated as their high point, a relentless, cold and surprisingly catchy record. The band split in 2006 and reunited in 2010, returning with Legion Helvete in 2011, then Antiliv and Helvegr on Season of Mist. Lyrically they stay with darkness, Satanism, horror films and Lovecraft. A listener knows them by sheer velocity, trebly riffs and a total refusal to soften anything.
