History
Trippie Redd, born Michael Lamar White II on June 18, 1999, in Canton, Ohio, is an American rapper, singer, and songwriter who emerged from the SoundCloud rap scene in the mid-2010s. After moving to Atlanta and later Los Angeles, he signed with Elliot Grainge's 10K Projects and released his breakout mixtape A Love Letter to You in 2017, powered by the double-platinum single "Love Scars." His sound blends trap, cloud rap, and emo rap with excursions into pop-punk and alternative rock, and he is widely credited as one of the artists who shaped the emo rap and "rage" subgenres. His debut album Life's a Trip (2018) hit number four on the Billboard 200, and A Love Letter to You 4 (2019) became his first chart-topping project. One genuine curiosity: he was the sole guest artist on XXXTentacion's landmark album 17, on the track "Fuck Love," which was certified Diamond by the RIAA in 2023 for selling over ten million units. His 2021 single "Miss the Rage," with Playboi Carti, remains his highest-charting song, peaking at number 11 on the Billboard Hot 100.
