History
Todd Terje makes disco that sounds like a sunny holiday: bubbling analogue arpeggios, bright synth leads, cowbells and congas, lounge chords and a sense of humour that never tips into parody. The Oslo producer, whose stage name is a play on the American house DJ Todd Terry, came up in the Norwegian space disco scene alongside Lindstrøm and Prins Thomas and first made his name with remixes and edits of old disco and pop. Inspector Norse became one of the most loved club tracks of the early 2010s, a wordless synth tune that works as well at a festival as at a house party. Other pieces such as Strandbar and Ragysh showed the same knack for catchy, playful melodies. It's Album Time, his long awaited debut album, framed the club hits with exotica, easy listening and bossa nova touches, and included a slow cover of Johnny and Mary sung by Bryan Ferry. He has also performed with a live band, Todd Terje and The Olsens. Listeners know him by the rubbery synth bass, the cheerful, tuneful leads and a retro palette that owes as much to 1970s library and lounge records as to disco.
