History
TLC is an American R&B/pop trio formed in 1990 in Atlanta, Georgia. Its best-known lineup consisted of Tionne "T-Boz" Watkins, Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes, and Rozonda "Chilli" Thomas, blending Watkins's contralto vocals and Thomas's R&B singing with Lopes's rapping over a sound rooted in new jack swing. The group broke through with its 1992 debut, Ooooooohhh... On the TLC Tip, then reached its commercial peak with CrazySexyCool (1994), which earned a rare diamond certification, and FanMail (1999), which made TLC the first R&B group to receive a million-selling certification from the Recording Industry Association of Japan. TLC scored four Billboard Hot 100 number-one singles — "Creep," "Waterfalls," "No Scrubs," and "Unpretty" — and won five Grammy Awards. Having sold more than 60 million records worldwide, they rank among the best-selling girl groups of all time. Left Eye died in a car accident in Honduras in 2002; rather than replace her, Watkins and Thomas chose to continue as a duo, releasing a fifth, self-titled album in 2017.
