History
Tiffany Renee Darwish, known mononymously as Tiffany, is an American pop singer born October 2, 1971, in Norwalk, California. She began performing country songs as a child and was discovered singing at the Palomino Club in Los Angeles. Her 1987 debut album Tiffany carried the bubblegum dance-pop sound of the era, but its lead single flopped until her label sent her on an unusual promotional run: a nationwide shopping-mall tour. That tour turned her cover of Tommy James and the Shondells' "I Think We're Alone Now" into a two-week No. 1 hit, followed by another chart-topper, "Could've Been." She set the record as the youngest female artist to top the Billboard 200 with a debut album, and later that year toured with New Kids on the Block as her opening act. Her career cooled in the 1990s as pop tastes shifted, though she stayed popular in Hong Kong and Southeast Asia. In 2025, "I Think We're Alone Now" reached a new audience after appearing in Stranger Things.
