History
The Wiseguys were a British electronic duo from London, working across big beat, breakbeat and trip hop. Theo Keating (aka Touché) and Paul Eve (aka Regal) had produced together since 1990, releasing the Ladies Say Ow! EP in 1994 before signing to Wall of Sound. Their 1996 debut, Executive Suite, mixed downtempo jazz beats with upbeat hip-hop and became a cult favourite. Regal left in 1997 to co-found the Bronx Dogs, leaving Touché to finish 1998's The Antidote alone under the Wiseguys name. That album produced the duo's two best-known tracks: "Ooh La La," a minor hit on first release that shot to No. 2 on the UK Singles Chart a year later after appearing in a Budweiser commercial, and "Start the Commotion," which cracked the Billboard Hot 100 top 40 in 2001 on the back of a Mitsubishi TV ad. The Wiseguys disbanded in 2001; Touché went on to record as one half of the Black Ghosts and under the alias Fake Blood, while Regal released solo material before his death was announced in 2024.
