History
The Kid LAROI, born Charlton Kenneth Jeffrey Howard on August 17, 2003, in Waterloo, an inner-Sydney suburb of Australia, is a singer, rapper, and songwriter working across pop rap, R&B, and pop punk. His stage name honors the Kamilaroi people, an Aboriginal Australian nation his maternal great-great-grandfather belonged to. He started posting music online as a young teenager and, after supporting Juice WRLD on Australian tour dates in 2018 and 2019, became a close mentee of the American rapper, living with him in Los Angeles to learn studio craft before Juice WRLD's death in December 2019. Signed to Grade A Productions and Columbia Records, LAROI broke through with the 2020 mixtape "F*ck Love," which topped the Australian ARIA Albums Chart, making him the youngest Australian solo act to do so. Its 2021 reissue "F*ck Love 3+: Over You" produced his signature hit "Stay" with Justin Bieber, which reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100, the Canadian Hot 100, and charts across multiple countries, and later earned VMA nominations. His debut studio album, "The First Time," followed in 2023.
