Inspiration, name-free
The Internet
Alternative R&B from the 2010s: 80s synth pads, gated reverb drums, sub bass, seductive and melancholic in feel. A name-free Suno recipe that reproduces the signature sound without tripping the artist-name filter.
Style: Alternative R&B
History
The Internet formed in Los Angeles in early 2011 as a side project of Syd and Matt Martians, both members of the hip-hop collective Odd Future. The band's lineup grew to include bassist Patrick Paige II, drummer Christopher Smith, and guitarist Steve Lacy, with Tay Walker and Jameel Bruner among earlier contributors. Their sound blends soul and alternative R&B with hip-hop, jazz, funk, and electronic dance music. The debut album, Purple Naked Ladies, arrived in December 2011 as the first physical release on Odd Future Records, followed by Feel Good (2013), Ego Death (2015), and Hive Mind (2018). Ego Death earned a Grammy nomination for Best Urban Contemporary Album. One quirky bit of trivia: the band's name began as a joke, after Odd Future member Left Brain told a reporter he was "from the Internet" rather than name a city, and the line stuck with Syd. In 2018 the group opened for Gorillaz across North America, playing its first-ever arena show at Toronto's Scotiabank Arena.
