History

Andrew Taggart and Alex Pall met in New York through a mutual acquaintance and spent their first years on remixes and novelty singles, #Selfie in 2014 among them. Roses in 2015 turned the project toward something steadier, and Don't Let Me Down won them a Grammy in the dance category. Closer, with Halsey, spent twelve weeks at number one in the United States in 2016, with Taggart singing the male part himself instead of hiring a guest. Memories...Do Not Open followed in 2017. Their production signature is a small one: a short muted pluck, usually a single note repeated, carrying the drop where a big-room synth would have gone, with the drums thinned out underneath it. Dozens of pop records copied that arrangement within a year or two. The later albums moved toward guitars and live drums.
