History
Tha Dogg Pound is an American West Coast hip-hop duo formed in Long Beach, California, in 1992, made up of rappers Kurupt and Daz Dillinger. They were among the first acts signed to Death Row Records; Dr. Dre reportedly pushed them to form a group after hearing their chemistry while working on his album The Chronic. Also known as DPG (Dogg Pound Gangstaz), the pair became a defining voice of the G-funk and gangsta rap sound of the mid-1990s. Their 1995 debut, Dogg Food, went gold on Death Row, and they contributed heavily to 2Pac's landmark 1996 album All Eyez on Me, with Daz producing the hit '2 of Amerikaz Most Wanted.' That year the duo earned a Grammy nomination for Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group for 'What Would You Do?' Kurupt and Daz left Death Row separately in 1998-99 to pursue solo work before reuniting, releasing the comeback album Cali Iz Active in 2006 with Snoop Dogg executive producing.
