History

Terence Fixmer is a French producer from Lille who spent more than two decades fusing electronic body music with techno, long before the neo-EBM revival made that mix fashionable. He discovered EBM as a teenager through acts such as Nitzer Ebb, Front 242 and DAF, and began making tracks in the early 1990s. His breakthrough came through International DeeJay Gigolo Records at the turn of the millennium, and the albums Muscle Machine in 2001 and Silence Control in 2006 set out his style: hard, mechanical grooves, snarling analogue bass sequences and a dark, militant atmosphere that fitted the electroclash years without being bound to them. His collaboration with Nitzer Ebb singer Douglas McCarthy as Fixmer/McCarthy, which produced the album Between the Devil in 2004, linked the original EBM generation directly to the techno floor. Later records such as Comedy of Menace kept that line. He is often described as a bridge between the alternative scene and techno. His sound is recognised by its steel-hard kicks, driving sequenced basslines, industrial textures and a cold, physical pressure.
