History

Superheaven play thick, slow-burning guitar rock that sits between nineties grunge and the emotional weight of post-hardcore. The band comes from Doylestown, Pennsylvania, and spent its first years under the name Daylight before a legal dispute with a Spanish group of the same name forced a change. As Superheaven they released Jar in 2013 and Ours Is Chrome in 2015 and became one of the anchors of the so-called grunge revival that ran through the American punk and emo underground in that decade. The sound leans on fuzzed, downtuned chords, heavy mid-tempo grooves and melodies that feel worn out on purpose, with Taylor Madison's hazy vocals floating over the noise. Critics filed them under grunge, alternative rock and emo; the band itself preferred to call it rock 'n' roll and described the mood as hopelessness and dread. After a hiatus and scattered reunion shows, they returned for good in 2022 and put out a self-titled album in 2025.
