History
Sueño Latino is the Italian project behind the 1989 track of the same name, one of the founding records of ambient house and the Balearic sound. It was made by a small group of musicians from Italy's house scene at the end of the 1980s. The core of the record is borrowed: its shimmering, endlessly repeating guitar and sequencer figures come from Manuel Göttsching's E2-E4, the long 1980s piece by the German guitarist that later became a touchstone for electronic musicians. Over that bed the track lays a relaxed house beat, soft keys and a quiet vocal, turning a cosmic, meditative loop into something for dawn on the dance floor. The single entered the UK singles chart and spread through clubs across Europe. A later version featured Göttsching himself adding new guitar parts, a rare case of the sampled artist joining the reworking. The track is recognised by its glistening arpeggios, floating tempo and dreamy, sunlit mood. More than three decades on, Balearic and chill-out DJs still reach for it when a set needs to slow down and open up.
