History
Steve Lacy (born Steve Thomas Lacy-Moya, May 23, 1998, in Compton, California) is an American singer-songwriter, guitarist, and producer working in alternative R&B, neo-soul, funk, and psychedelia. He joined the band the Internet as guitarist in 2015, co-producing their Grammy-nominated album Ego Death. A genuine trivia fact: his breakout solo EP, Steve Lacy's Demo (2017), was recorded almost entirely on his iPhone using the GarageBand app and an iRig guitar adapter, then became a sleeper hit. His debut album, Apollo XXI (2019), earned a Grammy nomination, and he also co-produced Kendrick Lamar's "Pride" and appeared on Vampire Weekend's "Sunflower." His second album, Gemini Rights (2022), spawned "Bad Habit," which went viral on TikTok, soundtracking over 400,000 videos, and became his first number-one hit on the Billboard Hot 100; the album won the Grammy for Best Progressive R&B Album. Time named him one of the 100 most influential people in the world in 2023.
