History
Sonny Fodera makes house built around songs: warm, vocal-led tracks with a swung, jacking groove underneath and hooks that work on the radio as well as in clubs. Born in Adelaide in 1985, he made hip hop beats as a teenager and turned to house at 18 after seeing Derrick Carter play. He later settled in London, where his career took shape. His first two albums, "Moving Forward" and "After Parties & Aeroplanes", came out on Cajual Records, and "Frequently Flying" followed on Defected in 2016. In 2017 he launched his own label, Solotoko, which released "Rise", "Wide Awake" and "Can We Do It All Again?", the last of these entering the Australian albums chart. Collaboration runs through his catalogue, with names such as MK, Green Velvet, Dom Dolla, Diplo, Becky Hill and Ella Eyre, and "Somedays" with Jazzy and D.O.D. became a hit in both the UK and Australia. The Fodera sound is easy to pick out: rolling bass, crisp swung drums, a soulful topline and a bright, sunny mood that sits between the underground and the charts.
