History
Snoh Aalegra is a Swedish-Iranian singer and songwriter, born Shahrzad Fooladi in Uppsala, Sweden, in 1987, to Persian parents. She began writing music at age 9 and first tried a music career as a teenager under the name Sheri, releasing the album First Sign in 2010. In 2013 she signed to No I.D.'s ARTium Recordings and relaunched as Snoh Aalegra, becoming a protege of Prince, who mentored her until his death in 2016. Her sound, which she calls "cinematic soul," blends R&B, soul, and hip hop, drawing on influences from Michael Jackson to film scores. Her debut album Feels (2017) was followed by Ugh, Those Feels Again (2019) and Temporary Highs in the Violet Skies (2021) on Roc Nation. The latter earned her two Grammy nominations, for Best R&B Album and Best R&B Performance. Her song "Time" was famously sampled by Drake on "Do Not Disturb." She has lived in Los Angeles since 2012.
