History

Slightly Stoopid blends reggae, punk, hip hop, blues and acoustic folk into a loose, sun baked sound that has made the band one of the biggest touring acts of American reggae rock. It started in Ocean Beach, San Diego, when Miles Doughty and Kyle McDonald were still teenagers, and they were noticed early by Sublime's Bradley Nowell, who put out their first records on his Skunk label. Doughty and McDonald share vocals and swap between guitar and bass, which gives the records a restless feel: a mellow dub groove can turn into a hardcore burst, then into a stripped acoustic blues. Over time the band grew into a large live unit with horns, percussion and keys. Closer to the Sun and Chronchitis in the mid 2000s built the audience, songs such as 2 AM and Collie Man became fan staples, and Top of the World in 2012 brought in reggae guests. Listeners recognise it by the hazy vocals, deep bass, horn stabs and easy jam band flow.
