History
Skrillex (born Sonny John Moore, January 15, 1988, in Los Angeles) is an American DJ, producer, and singer who became one of the defining figures of dubstep and electronic dance music in the early 2010s. Before going solo, he fronted the post-hardcore band From First to Last starting in 2004, singing on two albums until vocal strain pushed him out. Reinventing himself as Skrillex, he released the free EP "My Name Is Skrillex" in 2010, then signed to Deadmau5's label mau5trap for the breakout EP "Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites," known for its aggressive, glitchy sound later dubbed "brostep." At the 2012 Grammy Awards he won three awards from five nominations, including Best Dance/Electronica Album; he has since won eight Grammys total, the most of any electronic artist. His debut studio album, "Recess," followed in 2014. He co-produced the Justin Bieber hit "Where Are Ü Now" with Diplo as the duo Jack Ü, and runs the label OWSLA, which launched Porter Robinson. He is widely credited with pushing dubstep into the American mainstream.
