History
Shazza is the voice most closely tied to the golden years of disco polo, known in Poland as its queen. Her songs combine pulsing keyboard beats with more exotic touches than most of the genre, Latin and Middle Eastern flavours in the melodies, and a clear, confident vocal that sits right on top of the mix. She comes from Pruszków, grew up in the Ursus district of Warsaw, and started out around 1990 as a keyboardist and backing singer in the group Toy Boys before going solo. Her debut came in 1993, and in the mid-1990s songs like "Egipskie noce", "Noc róży", "Bierz co chcesz" and "Baiao Bongo" made her the genre's biggest female star, a regular presence on television programmes such as Disco Relax. She received gold and platinum records during that period. In the early 2000s she moved away from disco polo toward pop and dance music, and later returned to the public eye as a jury member on the show Disco Star. Listeners recognise her by the sultry, exotic arrangements and the bright, polished voice.
