History
Sergey Lazarev (born April 1, 1983, Moscow) is a Russian pop singer, dancer, and actor. He started young in the children's ensemble Neposedy before forming the duo Smash!! with Vlad Topalov in 2000; their dance-pop records made them stars across Eastern Europe and Southeast Asia until the group split in 2004. Lazarev's solo debut, "Don't Be Fake" (2005), was recorded in London and sold over 500,000 copies in Russia, earning him a MUZ-TV award. His 2012 album "Lazarev." went gold, and 2017's "V epitsentre," his first all-Russian record, topped the iTunes chart and won Album of the Year at MUZ-TV. He is best known internationally for representing Russia at Eurovision twice, in 2016 with "You Are the Only One" and in 2019 with "Scream" — placing third both times. The 2016 result drew particular attention because Lazarev won the televote outright but was marked down by the professional juries, a case still cited in debates over Eurovision's voting system.
