History
Selena Gomez was born July 22, 1992, in Grand Prairie, Texas, and got her start as a Disney Channel star on Wizards of Waverly Place before crossing into music in 2008, when she signed with Hollywood Records and formed the pop group Selena Gomez & the Scene. The band released three Top Ten albums between 2009 and 2011 (Kiss & Tell, A Year Without Rain, When the Sun Goes Down) before she launched a solo career with Stars Dance (2013). Her sound moved from breezy teen-pop toward more mature electro-pop and R&B on Revival (2015) and Rare (2020), the latter giving her a first Billboard Hot 100 number-one with "Lose You to Love Me." She also released the Spanish-language EP Revelación (2021) and, in 2025, I Said I Love You First with producer Benny Blanco, whom she married that year. Notable trivia: in March 2023 she became the first woman to pass 400 million Instagram followers, and Billboard named her Woman of the Year in 2017. She has said acting now takes priority over music, describing her output as slowing to occasional releases rather than a full-time pursuit.
