History

SahBabii makes trap that sounds like it is happening underwater: hazy synths, wobbling melodies and a half-sung, off-kilter delivery that drifts over the beat instead of attacking it. Born on Chicago's South Side, he moved to Atlanta at 13 and grew up inside the city's rap scene while pulling in stranger influences, from anime to video game soundtracks. His breakthrough came with "Pull Up wit ah Stick", which spread through a short Instagram clip before its official release and later went platinum. The mixtape S.A.N.D.A.S. from 2016 set out the dreamy, melodic side of his style, and a brief deal with Warner Bros. followed in 2017. He leaned further into his own mythology on Squidtastic in 2018 and Barnacles in 2020, calling himself King Squid and filling records with sea-creature imagery. Listeners know him by the soft, surreal production, the playful ocean motifs and a voice that floats rather than punches.
