History

Roger Sanchez built his reputation on filtered, bass-heavy New York house that sits between disco warmth and peak-time club pressure. Born in New York City, he came up through the city's club culture and worked under several names, including Roger S. and S-Man, before his own name became the draw. His big crossover moment came in 2001 with "Another Chance", a looping, sample-driven track built around a guitar and vocal fragment from Toto's "I Won't Hold You Back". It went to number one on the UK Singles Chart and anchored his debut album First Contact, released the same year through Defected. As a remixer he was in demand across pop and dance, and his remix of No Doubt's "Hella Good" won a Grammy for Best Remixed Recording. In 2002 he founded Stealth Records, and his long-running Release Yourself radio show and podcast kept him at the centre of the house circuit for decades. His style is recognised by the tight four-to-the-floor groove, chopped vocal hooks and slow filter sweeps that make a single loop feel like a build.
