History
Rival Consoles is the stage name of Ryan Lee West, a British electronic musician born in 1985 in Leicester, England, now based in London. He studied music technology at De Montfort University and originally trained on guitar, piano, and drums, an approach that still shapes his songwriter's take on electronic production. West debuted in 2007 first as Aparatec, then under the Rival Consoles name with the Decadent EP, becoming the very first artist signed to Erased Tapes Records, the label that has released his entire catalogue since. His sound blends ambient textures, minimal techno, and cinematic mood, built from analogue synths, guitar, and hands-on processing rather than pure software. Albums include IO (2009), Kid Velo (2011), Howl (2015), Night Melody (2016), Persona (2018), Articulation (2020), Overflow (2021), Now Is (2022), and Landscape from Memory (2025). He has remixed Jon Hopkins, Nils Frahm, and Ólafur Arnalds, and composed music for Charlie Brooker's Black Mirror episode "Striking Vipers" and Secret Cinema's Stranger Things production.
