History
Rings of Saturn built a whole identity around outer space and extreme guitar speed. The California band plays technical deathcore with an alien theme so consistent that fans and the band itself called it aliencore: lyrics about extraterrestrial invasion, cosmic horror and the destruction of humanity, set to music that sounds deliberately inhuman. The guitars carry the sound, with rapid sweep-picked arpeggios, tapping and high-register melodic runs sitting above blast beats and down-tuned breakdowns, producing a bright, glittering chaos that differs from the darker tone of most deathcore. Embryonic Anomaly in 2010 introduced the concept, Dingir in 2013 raised the technical ceiling, and Lugal Ki En in 2014 brought more melody and a cleaner production. The Sumerian titles of Dingir and Lugal Ki En tie into the band's interest in ancient-astronaut mythology. A listener recognises Rings of Saturn by the flurries of high, almost synthetic-sounding guitar lines and the science fiction imagery running through every record.
