History
Righeira is an Italian Italo disco duo formed in Turin by Johnson Righeira (Stefano Righi) and Michael Righeira (Stefano Rota), who met as schoolmates. The pair signed with producers Carmelo and Michelangelo La Bionda around 1982, and their self-titled debut album followed in 1983 on CGD Records. Their breakthrough single, "Vamos a la playa," sung in Spanish, hit number one in Italy, Argentina, Uruguay, and Switzerland, and reached the top ten across much of Europe, becoming one of the defining Italo disco anthems of the era. A genuinely striking detail: behind its bright, beach-party sound, the lyric is actually about a nuclear blast, cheerfully inviting listeners to the shore because "the bomb has exploded." Righeira followed up with the 1985 hit "L'estate sta finendo" and a 1986 entry at the Sanremo Music Festival with "Innamoratissimo," cementing their run as one of Italy's most recognizable novelty dance acts into the early 1990s.
