History
Rebelution play a clean, melodic reggae rock built on steady one-drop grooves, crisp organ skanks and the soft, reflective voice of singer and guitarist Eric Rachmany. The band formed in 2004 in Isla Vista, the college town next to the University of California, Santa Barbara, where all the members were students. They built a following through regular local shows and an independent EP, and the 2007 debut Courage to Grow became their breakthrough, with the single Safe and Sound picked up by alternative stations in California. They set up their own label, 87 Music, named after their old college address, and released Bright Side of Life on it in 2009. That record topped the Billboard reggae albums chart and crossed well into the main album chart, and Peace of Mind followed in 2012. Constant touring, including big American festivals, made them one of the anchors of the West Coast reggae scene. Their songs lean on positive, socially conscious lyrics and warm, uncluttered production.
