History
Peggy Gou plays and produces house that keeps one foot in the warm, slightly hazy end of the genre: rolling drums, a bass line that repeats without pushing, and a top layer of chimes, pads and her own voice used more as texture than as lead. She is South Korean and works largely out of Berlin, and the double residency shows in her records, which sit comfortably in a European club without hiding the Korean-language lines she often sings over them. It Makes You Forget (Itgehane) was the track that moved her from a working DJ to a name, a long, patient groove that rewards being played in full. She runs her own label and has built a parallel presence in fashion that reaches people who never enter a club. (It Goes Like) Nanana took her furthest, a bright, nineties-flavoured dance record that went from festival sets to daytime radio across 2023 and gave the wider pop audience a version of house that had not been on the charts for years.
