History
Paula Temple makes techno that sounds like it is tearing itself apart: distorted kicks, shrieking noise layers and rhythms that lurch rather than glide. Born in Manchester and raised in Preston, she started producing as a teenager while working at Action Records, and released her debut EP The Speck of the Future on the Sheffield label Material in 2002. She then stepped away from performing for several years, citing the misogyny she met in the industry, and spent the time teaching music production and developing the MXF8 MIDI controller. She came back after moving to Berlin, with the Colonized EP on R&S Records in 2013 and Deathvox on the same label a year later. In 2015 she founded Noise Manifesto, a label committed to giving half its space to women and trans artists, and the anonymous collective project Decon/Recon runs through it. Her first album, Edge of Everything, followed in 2019. Her sets blur DJing and live production, and the music stands out for its sheer density and a fury held on a tight leash.
