History
Parcels make light, tightly interlocked disco-funk: clean rhythm guitar, melodic bass, soft stacked harmonies and a groove that feels played rather than programmed. The five members, Louie Swain, Patrick Hetherington, Noah Hill, Anatole Serret and Jules Crommelin, grew up in the beach town of Byron Bay in New South Wales and had been playing together since around the age of thirteen in bands that tried funk, folk, metal and bluegrass. Parcels formed in 2014 and moved to Berlin the same year. Signed to the French label Kitsuné, they broke through with the 2017 single Overnight, written and produced together with Daft Punk. The self-titled debut album followed in 2018 with the singles Tieduprightnow, Bemyself, Lightenup and Withorwithout, and the double album Day/Night came in 2021. Their music is usually described as a blend of electropop and disco-soul. Listeners recognise them by the restrained, precise playing, vocal harmonies in the manner of 1970s soft rock and long grooves that build slowly instead of dropping.
