History
P-Lo makes big, bass-heavy party records with an unmistakable Bay Area knock, and for years he made them mostly for other people. He comes from Pinole, California, started producing in middle school on beat software his brother brought home from the Youth Radio program, and met Iamsu! at Pinole Valley High School. Together they founded HBK Gang, the collective that became the clearest voice of the post-hyphy generation, and P-Lo's production work reached Sage the Gemini, Kehlani, G-Eazy and Wiz Khalifa among others. As a Filipino-American rapper-producer he also became a visible figure for Filipino hip-hop fans in the Bay, something he speaks about openly. His first solo LP, More Than Anything, arrived in 2017 and moved him out from behind the boards, with the self-produced "Put Me On Somethin'" featuring E-40 as a statement of regional pride. His sound is recognisable by the thumping low end, snappy drums and hooks built for car stereos and house parties.
