History
Owl City is the primary musical project of American singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Adam Young, launched in 2007 in Owatonna, Minnesota. Suffering from insomnia while working night shifts loading delivery trucks, Young began writing and recording synth-driven electronica alone in his parents' basement, then uploaded the songs to MySpace, which led to a deal with Universal Republic Records in 2009. The project's sound blends electronica, dream pop, synth-pop and contemporary Christian music. Its breakthrough came with the 2009 album "Ocean Eyes," whose single "Fireflies" spent two weeks atop the Billboard Hot 100 and was later certified Diamond by the RIAA for over ten million units, making it one of the era's biggest electronic-pop hits. Young followed with albums including "All Things Bright and Beautiful" (2011) and "The Midsummer Station" (2012), the latter featuring the Carly Rae Jepsen duet "Good Time." Owl City songs have also appeared in films such as "Wreck-It Ralph" and "The Croods," and Young has collaborated with trance producer Armin van Buuren and DJ Chicane.
